Accounting Jobs

There are two different types of Accounting jobs available to job seekers, they are Financial Accounting and Management Accounting. The difference is that Management accounting deals with providing relevant information for planning within companies whilst Financial Accounting focus's more on auditing and reporting of external companies.

There are different avenues of Accounting in which job seekers can choose to follow such as Auditing, Financial Reporting, Management Accounting, Budget analysis and working in Taxation. With different Government practices brought in recently there has been a lot of openings for Accountants in the public sector.

Job seekers looking for accounting work can try either in Government, Corporations, Public Accounting Firms and they can also go out on their own. For recent University graduates in Accounting the Government is a great place to start as it has a lot of room for advancement within the organization. Other benefits in finding work within the government are flexible working hours, Annual Leave, Sick Leave, Long Service Leave, Compassionate Leave and Paid Maternity Leave. There is even Study Leave available to some people who have undertaken further education. There is also plenty of job opportunities for graduates in the Government, whether it be the State, Federal or Local government. Working for the Government also has much more job security than that in the private sector.

Other Accountants eventually branch out on their own when they have some working background behind them. This can be very rewarding to any Accountant, weather it be the flexibility of working for yourself and it can also be financially rewarding. On the other hand you would have to market yourself and try to bring in new clients to make it work. For many Accountants starting up their own business can be too risky and the preference of having a financially secure job is much more beneficial.

Salaries for Accountants can vary depending on years of experience and work history. Entry level is generally around $30,000 per annum and this can grow to $200,000 + in the event that you become a partner in a firm. In general salaries are higher in the private sector rather than the government but you would more than likely work harder in the private sector to achieve this.

Accounting practices have changed in recent times with most large companies/government introducing computer systems to run and help prepare financial statements. This is in start contrast to years ago when there was thousands of paper trails to follow.

If you are searching for accounting work then there are many options available to you to try to find employment within the industry. You can search large Accounting Firms websites as some of them advertise that way or you can fill in an application form and leave your CV with them. You could also sign up with a couple of job agency's as this will give you more chance of finding a suitable position. The Government is also a great place to look for Accounting work so be sure to check Government websites for any openings.
