Entertainment production assistant jobs are the types of jobs involving administrative, creative, and technical assistance which are intended for television, film and theater productions. In the advertising industry, entertainment production assistant jobs are focused mainly on television commercials. Television commercials are some of the most commonly used broadcasting media for product promotions
You may choose between two different types of entertainment production assistants: an office production assistant and a set production assistant. As an office production assistant or office PA, you need to focus on performing tasks such as answering calls, arranging deliveries, picking up lunches, and photocopying scripts. Office PA's usually spend most of their time staying inside the production office.
Choosing to be a set production assistant or set PA will give you the satisfaction of working "behind the scenes." Unlike the office PA's who stay in the production office premises, set PA's travel with the rest of the production staff. As a set PA, you can watch the filming of the promotional television commercial whether the shooting is taking place on a sound stage or a remote location. The immediate "boss" of set PA's is either the second assistant director or the first assistant director. A disadvantage of working as a set PA is being on-call for long hours. Being the set PA usually means that you are the first to arrive and the last to leave the location.
As the production assistant, you will be involved in performing various tasks that will ensure the smooth running of the entertainment productions. Your job will primarily be focused on keeping all obstacles and hindrances out of the way. Being an entertainment production assistant will cause you to perform a series of odd jobs that include photocopying scripts, stopping traffic, taking phone calls, calling shots, and buying props.
The basic requirements needed for entertainment production assistant jobs include organisational abilities and administrative skills. Since the line of work requires you to do several errands, you also need to be quick, alert, and efficient.
