                  Backpacker Jobs

There are many jobs available in Australia for Backpackers. Backpacking jobs can be found in numerous places with a lot of job advertisements found in Backpacker lodgings pinned on a board. It is important to note that if you are looking for an overseas job then you must first apply for a working visa before you leave your country of origin.

In Australia there are many opportunities to work for Backpackers with the horticulture industry providing most of the work during the Australian summer. This can include grape picking, orange picking, apricot picking etc. Other work which Backpackers can get involved in if they have the credentials are nursing and accountancy. If you do find work in the fruit picking area during summer then take note it is usually extremely hot work and the pay is not great. The up side is that there is an abundance of work within this industry and is easy to find work for backpackers as most unemployed locals choose not to take these jobs.

The benefits of looking for work in the Hospitality Industry is that there are different shifts available and lots of evening work available so for backpackers this leaves your days free for sightseeing. Swapping shifts is usually also available in most places so this will normally make it easier if you do have certain tours planned. The flexibility of working within Hospitality is the main attraction and this goes hand in hand with it being the most likely place to find casual employment.

Backpackers are looking for casual work so the best way of finding it is to knock on doors of potential employees and ask if there is any work available. When doing this it is important to leave contact details with any possible employers and a contact number. If looking for work in the city and you don't have any relevant experience then i would suggest applying at restaurants and pubs as there are lots of available bar work or waiting jobs. Due to the high amount of turnover of staff in the hospitality industry it is the most likely place to find casual employment for backpackers.

Other ways of finding employment if your a backpacker is to put your name down at a job agency but generally door knocking increases the chances of finding employment within the Hospitality industry. When approaching potential employers it is important to be neatly dressed and well presented and also show that your keen to work and willing to start doing any job. When finding work as a casual it is also important to be punctual as most employers will no hesitation in letting you go if you don't get off on the right foot and report to work on time.

The downside of finding employment within the hospitality industry is that you are a casual and may be called to work at a quick notice. Also when employed within the hospitality industry the pay can vary drastically depending on the employer and/or tips you receive whilst working. Because you are doing unskilled labour there are many other people competing with you to take the same jobs such as university students looking to make money in the evenings whilst working during the day.

In summary finding work as a backpacker shouldn't be too hard if you are willing to apply and get knocked back, the more you keep knocking on doors the more chance you will have of eventually finding employment.
