                    Construction Manager Jobs

Construction Manager jobs require several skills. Although typically recognized as "practical skills", they include organization, knowledge of the entire construction process, a keen eye for detail, and the ability to deal with people (both workers and clients) on a daily basis. Because construction managers stand between the clients and the workers, as well as between the architect and the subcontractors, a construction manager must be responsible, meeting deadlines and paying full attention to the construction process at all times. Such responsibility entails skills such as knowledge of the customary construction techniques and processes, basic plumbing and electrician training, blueprint reading, budgeting, and the purchasing of materials.

A construction manager must also have good people-skills, and understanding the capabilities and limitations of his workers is a key factor in properly managing the construction process. He must also be devoted to regularly checking all areas of the construction. Thus, allowing the manager to delineate what else might need to be done, replaced or even removed and constructed again.

What to Expect as a Construction Manager

Because all construction processes require permits and certifications, a bonus for any construction manager is the ability to obtain and understand such paperwork. With such knowledge, the construction manager earn well, being that the client obtains the said permits at a quicker and sooner pace, as well as save a considerable amount of money. Thus, although those who work in this profession might find it to be time-consuming and demanding, they are nonetheless rewarded for all of the burdens they carry.

What is Expected of a Construction Manager

Most construction managers begin this career after high school - starting out as carpenters, plumber's assistants, and other types of construction workers, gathering enough knowledge and experience to soon realize that they are ready to begin managing construction sites themselves. Others enter apprentice programs, or two-year junior college programs. Credited background also includes a degree from accredited universities in Mathematics, building codes and blueprint reading.
