Damp Proofer Jobs

Damp proofing is an important process which serves to prevent or repair damage done to buildings by dampening, insects, or fungi. Materials such as wood, brick, and other synthetic materials are often lined with damp proof layers to preserve longevity, integrity, and appearance. A damp proofer installs, maintains, and reinstalls damp proof layers within a structure or building. As such, they are often part of the construction and maintenance division of a project.

Common Tasks Performed by a Damp Proofer

The first order of business that a damp proofer carries out is inspection. With the use of specialized tools, like moisture meters, the professional takes a general survey of the building. Inspection usually begins with an general check for cracks, moisture markings, or evidence of insect and fungi presence. More in-depth inspection may require the removal of bricks, plaster, or other materials in order to get under the surface.

When it is determined that damp proofing is needed, the damp proofer prepares various chemicals (e.g. pesticides, fungicides, plaster, etc.) and damp proofing materials. With the use of sprayers, injections, and drills, the damp proofer cleans the area and replaces moisture insulation products. Once the damp proofing is complete, the damp proofer may be required to replace the walls, bricks, or other components that he previously removed to complete his task.
