Estimator managers work on cost estimations for projects that deal with large sums of money. An example of such a project would be building construction. The construction of a building requires a large budget that must cover supplies, equipment, labour, and other materials needed to complete the project. Estimator managers work closely with project managers, suppliers, and clients in order to prepare precise estimations of project costs.

What is Expected of an Estimator ManagerWorking with a team of estimators, the estimator manager supervises the processes that go into a project estimation. The construction director communicates to the estimator manager the needs, specifications, and other construction information. From there, the estimator manager works on the proper strategy and procedure of action for the team of estimators. Meetings with project managers, construction directors, suppliers, sub-contractors, consultants and clients are frequently done by the estimator manager. These meetings assure proper deadlines, contract agreements, and cost projection. The following tasks are common to the job of an estimator manager:

  • Appropriating tasks to other estimators on the job
  • Plan and control the strategy and action of the estimator team
  • Finalization of the estimations, reports, and other concerns
  • Submission of collected data and estimation reports
  • Liaise with contract managers to finalize contract agreements
  • Reviewing and incorporating detailed specifications and demands of clients or construction director
Qualification and RequirementsMost employers prefer applicants who have extensive experience in the field of construction estimation. This experience will ensure that the applicant is accustomed to the processes, equipment, and labour involved in construction projects. Depending on the company and project size, educational qualifications vary from a high school diploma, to college degrees in engineering, finance, or other related courses. Excellenent communication, teamwork, and organizational skills are needed to be successful in this field. Compensation for this position is scaled to the qualification and experience of the applicant, as well as the size of the project at hand.
