Fence Erector jobs entail building and erecting fences for land properties in order to mark boundaries and to ensure safety. A fence erector puts up fences for many different types of structures. These structures range from gardens, farms, homes and animal enclosures to stretches of motorway, prisons and industrial premises. The main tasks of a fence erector includes measuring, preparation of the material, putting up of the fence, and post work including painting.
A fence erector first measures the area, and then calculates the amount of materials needed in order to fence-in the given area. A fence erector uses a variety of materials depending on the purpose of the fence. These materials usually include wood, metal and concrete. For garden fences, the material most commonly used is wood, while motorway fences use metal. Structures such as prisons and industrial premises also make use of metal and concrete, topped with barbed wire to ensure protection of the structure's occupants. Nowadays, ready-made panels can be purchased at hardware stores, but the fence erector must still handle the erecting of these panels. When necessary, a fence erector must also apply paint and/or a coat of weatherproofing material to the fence that he has erected.
A Fence Erector job is suitable for those who enjoy working alone, with one other person, or within a small team. Fence Erectors must have good practical skills and a basic knowledge of Math in order to make proper measurements and calculations. Fence erectors must also be physically fit as the job requires digging, hammering, nailing, bolting and other physically-strenuous activities. At times, fence erectors must also be capable of removing old fencing and clearing away any obstructions underground before erecting new fencing. Compensation for these duties is dependent on the project size, as well as the experience and qualification of the applicant.
