Although most building jobs don't have educational requirements, the building industry needs academically qualified people to handle graduate jobs.

Graduate jobs are types of jobs that require people employed in them to have graduate or postgraduate degrees. Graduate jobs are for people who meet the academic requirements for such building jobs.

Engineer jobs

Civil engineering, mechanical engineering and electrical engineering are some of the graduate jobs that are available in building industry. Generally, engineers working in building jobs are tasked to plan, design, install or build and manage building projects.

To work in engineering jobs, you must possess an engineering degree or Masters Degree in engineering.

Architect jobs

Architect jobs are jobs that involve planning, designing and constructing new buildings and repair and renovation if old ones. Architects are responsible for the project as soon as it commenced until it's completed.

To be hired as architect in building jobs, you must have a Bachelor of Architecture. A postgraduate degree in architecture would definitely increase your chances on landing architect jobs.

Geologist jobs

Geologists work as soil testers in building jobs. Soil testers determine the soil profile in the worksite. The results of the soil testing will be used in obtaining a building permit. Soil testers are usually engineering geologists. They combine fieldwork, laboratory-based work, and office duties.

To handle a job as soil tester, you must have a degree or postgraduate qualifications in geology, geophysics or geochemistry.

Land surveyor jobs

As a land surveyor, you will collect data and map the land features on construction projects. These data and maps will be used as the basis for the project site plans. You will also be tasked to prepare feasibility reports.

Land surveyor jobs require that you have a degree in surveying and eventually earn a licence.

What you must have

Apart from academic requirements, graduate jobs also require you to possess the skills adn knowledge necessary to perform the jobs efficiently. You must have good analytical skills as well as problem solving skills. Understanding of relevant legislations in relation to building industry practices is also preferred.

You must also have good planning and design skills. Organisational and communication skills could help you keep the job.

Money matters

Salaries vary according to experience, area of specialisation, skill level, employer, and location of employment. Comparatively, graduate jobs offer higher salary range than other building jobs.
