        Labourer Jobs

        Are you a muscle man or woman? Do you fancy yourself doing heavy, manual labour? You must be considering any labourer jobs in building industry.

        Labourer jobs are comprised of people who are tasked to assist tradespeople and contractors on building and construction sites. Building jobs need labourers to do a wide range of manual labouring jobs.

        People who are engaged in labourer jobs do manual and menial works that are central to the building and construction operation. Employed in labourer jobs are those who assist the scaffolders, bricklayers, concreters, painters and other contractors.

        On the job

        Labourers do a wide variety of work in the construction and building industry. They compose a big chunk of the building jobs manpower.

        Labourers may perform some or all of the following tasks:

        • carry, load, and unload stacks of building materials
        • place tools and equipment in place where they are needed
        • assist in the setup and dismantling of scaffolding
        • delivery and setup of equipment
        • mix, pour, spread concrete
        • use wheelbarrows to transport building materials or to remove rubbish from the work site
        • scrub and clean surfaces for painters
        • dig holes and trenches using hand tools or jackhammers
        • assist with traffic management

        What you should have

        If you want to get a job as labourer in building industry, you must posses a wide range of practical skills. You must be able to understand basic building terms and methods. Knowledge of different machines being used in building and construction industry could work to your advantage. Knowledge of safety measures on work site may be helpful.

        Although there are no specific education requirements set for the labourer jobs for skills are gained on the job, employers prefer that you have at least three years of secondary education. Useful subjects are English, maths, and carpentry.
