Traffic & transport manager jobs are the types of jobs involving the development, administration, and enforcement of transportation planning and traffic operations. Being the traffic & transport manager makes you responsible for all activities regarding the traffic & transport aspects of a construction project. Before starting a construction project, you have to review the city codes and ordinances to make sure that the traffic & transport aspects of the project are both legal and appropriate. To do this, you also need to conduct field surveys, site distance studies, accident analyses, and traffic warrant studies.

Your tasks and responsibilities as a traffic & transport manager also includes the checking and reviewing of construction plans, the preparation of proposal and contract requests, and the supervision of traffic information. You also need to coordinate all engineering assignments about geometric street design, street lighting systems, traffic circulation design, traffic safety studies, traffic signals, and urban transportation studies.

As the traffic & transport manager, you also need to supervise and train your staff members. You have to ensure that their performance is in conformity with the contract plans and specifications. Since your immediate bosses will also ask you to evaluate your staff, you have to make sure that your staff will gain praises and not complaints.

In the presence of traffic problems, you have to respond to the inquiries and complaints of the citizens. You also need to forward those issues to city officials or community groups right away. You can also offer appropriate traffic & transport solutions. Since your job involves lots of social interactions, you need to improve your oral communication skills.

You need a college degree in civil engineering, logistics, traffic management, or any other related field to qualify for traffic & transport manager jobs. You need a previous working experience of at least seven years in industrial transportation to qualify for traffic & transport manager jobs. Background in freight operations, passenger operations, physical distribution, project management, and transport planning is very important. Proficiency in computer applications is also an advantage.
