In order to sell its products and services, a company has to employ information campaigns such as advertisements, e-commerce and telemarketing. In order to make proper use of such campaign, companies will hire marketing consultants who are highly knowledgeable in the matter. Marketing consultants may either be self-employed, work for a consultancy firm, or employed by the company requiring the consultant. It is the job of the marketing consultant to provide technical advise such as how to make an advertisement more effective to its target audience, what details of the product or service to include, and how much the campaign will cost.

A marketing consultant is responsible for the following tasks:

• Conduct Market Research- a marketing consultant needs to study the client, the customer and the product in order to make valid assessments and advise. He should be highly analytical and very creative.
• Plan and Develop Marketing Strategies- once the necessary data has been gathered, a marketing consultant must outline the proper plan of action and the goals that the marketing campaign should achieve.
• Monitor a Marketing Campaign- although most marketing consultants only
  provide technical advise or support, some may be required to oversee a marketing campaign and its progress.

In the sales industry, a marketing consultant usually advises sales representatives how to work out the customer's needs and how to properly introduce a product or service, including the product's technical merits and operation procedures.

Job Requirements

A marketing consultant, or any consultancy job in general, requires an advanced professional degree in any business management courses. There are business schools and colleges that offer courses in marketing, in the bachelor or graduate level. Marketing consultant jobs are known to be well-paying jobs, with salaries exceeding $100,000 a year, depending on the level of expertise.
