Help Desk Operative Jobs
A help desk is a part of the customer service section of any establishment. Help desk operatives are usually the first ones to accommodate a client or a visitor. The job entails a pleasing personality, good conversational skills and a respectable appearance. Help desk operatives should also be well-organised in their work, especially those who's help desk services an entire building or any similarly large company. Help desk operatives may also
perform security functions.
A help desk operative carries out a variety of tasks. Some of these are the following
- Provide Information Regarding the Business Establishment- a help desk operative should be well-informed on the location of the occupants in the establishment. Common questions would be asking for the availability of an employee, what floor does he belong to, etc.
- Refer clients to the proper channels- once basic information has been provided, it is the help desk operative's task to notify the contact person of a coming visitor, and to see if he is on an appointment.
- Check and Verify Forms of Identification- employees should be checked for their identification cards, and visitors required to wear a visitor's pass while they are in company premises.
- Safekeeping of Items Not Allowed in the Establishment- a visitor would
occasionally bring some things that cannot be brought into the company. A good example of this would be a firearm. It is the duty of the help desk operative to hold on to these items and return them when the visitor leaves.
Job Requirements
Minimum or no formal education is required from applicants, although high school and college graduates are usually preferred. Previous experience in any customer service jobs could be an edge over other applicants. Help desk operative salaries are around $30,000 to $40,000 a year.
