In the communications industry, a call centre operator is a person who is employed by a call centre company. He is a professional who provides customers with basic information on products or services that a customer might be interested in. call centre operators may be tasked with handling inquiries on the phone along with data-gathering or data-providing duties. Other tasks of a call centre operator include resolving customer complaints, referring customers to the proper channels, and record keeping of daily statistics and accomplishments.

There are two basic types of call centre operators- the inbound operator and the outbound operator. Inbound operators are those who receive customer calls and answer their questions regarding product use, airline reservations, etc. alternatively, outbound operators are the ones who call the customers to see if they may be interested in purchasing a certain product or a service.

Call centre operators work under the supervision of a team leader, and is subject to the team's standards and quota. As a member of the team, they must be able to provide input for team improvement. They must be excellent communicators with emphasis on having a friendly tone of voice in handling customers. Computer skills are a requirement, especially word processing and Internet research capabilities. Call centre operators are required to answer to a customer's needs efficiently and accurately, and may be assigned other tasks in the process.

Call centre operator jobs are very popular among fresh graduates, since the job has proven to be a good starting ground for their future careers. Call centres often require any college degree from their job applicants, but even non-degree holders may be hired if they have well-honed communication and computer skills. Salaries are moderate to high, and may include bonuses if you reach or exceed your quota.
