Demolition jobs are usually part-time or contractual jobs which are characterized by the breaking down of building and structures. Buildings and infrastructures may be demolished by using any of the following: bulldozers, rotational hydraulic shears, cranes, wrecking balls, elevated work platforms, or excavators.
People who work in the demolition industry are sometimes referred to as demolition labourers or demolition workers. They dismantle safety rails and fences, strip out floors and fittings, remove doors and windows, and tear down roofs and walls. Some demolition workers who possess a drivers license are also given the task of operating the demolition machinery.
Because demolition is a very physically demanding job, demolition workers are expected to be fit and healthy in order to survive the very tough work. Aside from being a strenuous type of work, demolition jobs are also performed in filthy places which are covered in dust and filled with noise. Because most demolition jobs require working in highly elevated places, workers who are not afraid of heights are preferred.
