Automotive jobs are common in vehicle manufacturing companies, vehicle repair shops, and companies that make use of and maintain vehicles. Automotive jobs are also common in car dealerships and vehicle leasing businesses.

Responsibilities in Automotive Jobs

People doing automotive jobs may be automotive technicians or mechanics. Automotive mechanics are in charge of speaking with vehicle owners and inspecting and diagnosing vehicles of damages of faulty equipment. Automotive mechanics are also in charge of repairing vehicles and of replacing the parts that are no longer useful. Furthermore, automotive mechanics run tests on vehicles, their parts and connected accessories.

Automotive mechanics may become head automobile mechanics with enough experience and know-how. Head automobile mechanics are experts in all aspects of automotive service. On the other hand, beginners in automotive jobs may eventually become service estimators or specialists who take charge of inspections, writing of clients' orders and costing of services. In addition, automotive workers could be service managers or supervisors of the companies they work in or they may run their own businesses.

Education and Skills Required in Automotive Jobs

Automotive workers must have a high school diploma and training school diploma. They must have taken courses on mechanical engineering and classes on maintaining vehicles, computer processes, mechanical drawing, or science. Furthermore, they must have had several years of on-the-job training under the supervision of expert automotive workers.

Automotive workers must have excellent analytical skills, be physically fit, and able to carry objects of varying weight. They must be able to work well with their hands and they should be comfortable getting grease, dirt, or oil on their clothing and body. Furthermore, automotive workers should be willing to work indoors and, sometimes, during long or irregular hours.
