Civil engineers and civil engineer design drafters must possess a bachelor's degree in civil engineering, architecture, or related courses, at the least. Construction workers, on the other hand, must have finished training in vocational schools or technical institutes. Moreover, all civil design jobs workers must have several years of on-the-job training and licenses to work.

Civil design jobs workers must be willing to work long hours both indoors and outdoors. Civil engineers and their counterparts must have excellent organisation and creative design skills and know how to use computer programs.
