Civil jobs are categorised under engineering jobs. Civil jobs include jobs for engineering technical officers, building technicians and quantity surveyors. Civil jobs are for people who prefer to be involved in the construction of homes, recreational facilities, and other establishments.
Civil jobs workers are often employed in construction companies and they also work with building contractors. Also, civil jobs workers may be hired by government agencies, private companies, and urban planning firms.
Engineering technical officers are in charge of operating equipment used in construction sites. They are also in charge of monitoring the activities of construction workers and of assisting civil engineers. Furthermore, engineering technical officers may need to do costing of building materials and labour, check the specifications being followed by workers in blueprints and do some manual tasks such as laying the foundations of a building.
Building technicians, on the other hand, are given the task of supervising construction workers when engineers and architects are not present in the construction sites. Building technicians may need to read blueprints and relay instructions to construction workers. Building technicians may also help in estimating and distributing payroll to workers and report the development of operations to clients, engineers and architects.
Quantity surveyors are mainly responsible for estimating the costs of building projects. Quantity surveyors may coordinate with architects, designers, engineers and clients about the details and specifications of projects and prepare a plan for the monthly or weekly provisions of monetary resource.
Civil jobs workers must have at least a bachelor's degree in courses such as engineering or mathematics. They will also be more efficient workers if they have learned mechanical drawing, geometry, trigonometry, or computer science. Furthermore, civil jobs workers must have licenses to work as well as many years of related-work experience.
Civil jobs workers must be willing to work indoors and outdoors. They must also be physically and mentally capable of performing their tasks. Furthermore, they must have effective communication and organisation skills.
