Quantity surveyors need to have a college degree in civil engineering or in courses related to surveying. Quantity surveyors may also pursue graduate studies to become more effective in their jobs. Furthermore, quantity surveyors must have several years of similar-work experience as well as working licenses.

Quantity surveyors must be able to do mathematical computations and measurements accurately. They must also have clear vision, be physically fit, and be willing to travel short and long distances.
