Instrumentation Jobs

Instrumentation engineers specialize on designing, building, and keeping in good condition the measuring devices used in plant production and monitoring process. They work hand in hand with instrumentation technicians during maintenance and repair, while installation jobs are done by electricians. In contrast to maintenance engineers, who generally do routine inspection and maintenance of the machinery, instrumentation engineers are those who invent the control instruments necessary for automation. Specifically, instrumentation jobs involve devices concerning air pressure and temperature. They determine which instruments should be required in order to raise the quality of the product with the least possible use of resources. As all other engineers, instrumentation engineers aim to increase productivity and to make sure that the apparatus and procedures are secure and dependable.

Because the demand for instrumentation engineers is high in industries with automated processes, many of them get jobs in chemical plants, oil refineries, cement factories, and other mechanized plants. A considerable number of them work in research and development across industries.

The lowest possible rate for instrumentation jobs is Au$50,000 per year. However, an experienced instrumentation engineer can get as much as Au$170,000.

Job description

You can get hold of jobs in instrumentation engineering in businesses that produce and distribute the equipment, as well as in companies which buy and use them. But before that, you might want to know what the job entails:

Qualifications

Although a bachelor degree in instrumentation engineering should do the job, a good grasp of a company's business process and the ability to deal with people at all levels and roles are definitely needed. In some cases, license requirements may apply.
