Excavation jobs, generally considered segments of the construction industry, involve digging soils or grounds to prepare for construction operations such as laying pipes, installing building foundation, and developing drainage system. With these strenuous duties, excavation jobs normally require workers to have sturdy bodies, especially since they have to work with heavy and huge machines, muscle dexterity, knowledge of the kinds of soil, excellent interpersonal skills, familiarity with excavation techniques, and machine operation skills. The last requirementsmachine operation skillsare extremely important since excavation jobs are completed with excavation equipment and hand tools such as excavators, loaders, dozers, wheelbarrows, and hoes. Excavation workers must also know the maintenance and repair techniques for every machine.
The excavation workers, which normally include the foremen, machine operators, blasters, excavator drivers, and assistants, must be willing to work under the most stressful conditionsincluding inclement weatherprecisely carry out their duties, and be open to the possibilities of on-site hazards.
