Some administrative work, such as answering phone calls and emails, may also be involved. Senior pensions administrator jobs are offered by several company types, including consultancies, third-party administration companies, public pensions providers, and large insurance companies. Like most financial planning, insurance, and superannuation jobs, they usually require full-time work and offer moderate travel opportunities.

Senior pensions administrator jobs get paid an average of $52,800 per year. The salary can be bigger or smaller depending on company size, experience, and additional qualifications. Insurance firms and consultancies usually offer the best compensation packages.

Job description

Senior pensions administrators often perform a combination of several small tasks, from regular office work to advanced analysis and number-crunching. Multitasking and organizational skills are a must since much of the work is on tight deadlines. Here are some of the things to expect on the job:

  • Keeping and updating a database of member profiles, including their current standing and contact information
  • Generating billing statements, financial reports, and other documents as needed by the company
  • Calculating the benefits payable to members and drawing up reports for accounting purposes
  • Processing paperwork for applications, retirements, claims, and other important transactions
  • Working with representatives from other departments to check for regulatory and legal compliance
  • Performing basic customer service, including answering phone calls, responding to emails, and greeting and/or assisting walk-in customers

Qualifications

The minimum requirement for a senior pensions administrator is a relevant bachelor's degree, similar to other financial planning, insurance, and superannuation jobs. Since it's a senior position, experience is also necessary; most people in this job have worked their way up from junior positions. Further studies are usually optional for entering the job, but may be helpful or even required when you apply for promotions in the future.
