Special Needs Teaching Jobs

Children with special needs need education, too. The only difference that they have with other children is that they have some form of impediment, like blindness, deafness, or being struck with a genetically obtained disorder such as Down's Syndrome. Apart from that, they live with the need for food, shelter, clothing, love, and education like normal children.

What Are Special Needs Teaching Jobs?

The following points are a special needs teacher's areas of concern:

  • The student's physical disability and the therapy sessions he needs
  • The student's assignments and projects at school
  • The student's nurse--they have to be closely coordinated with each other

The Australian Association of Special Education (AASE) is the agency concerned with the educational requirements of special children. They also set curriculum standards as well as standards for educators of special children. As per AASE standards, here are the qualifications for a position in the special needs teaching jobs field:

  • A degree in teaching
  • Specialization in therapy/physiotherapy for special children
  • Sign language training or other relevant training programs, depending on the specific type of students being taught
