  • Telephone Skills - Obviously if you are answering telephones you will need to be polite and helpful to clients or other colleagues. There are certain skills, which need to be applied when answering telephones if dealing with difficult clients.

Salaries for Administration staff can range greatly depending on qualifications and experience. Starting salaries in Australia can start from $30,000 and range upwards from there depending on education, knowledge and experience.

Education and Training are important tools for working in an Administration job but certainly not a necessity depending on the job. These special skills can be obtained by taking up Tafe Courses or University Courses. There are many opportunities for Graduates in Administrative roles, there are many Government Jobs available to University Graduates and it is certainly a great way to get into the workforce and gain valuable working experience. The State, Federal and Local Governments have the most administrative positions in Australia so anyone interested in applying for any of those positions should look up the Government website's where most jobs are posted.

Conditions of employment of Administration Staff can vary depending on where employment is found but generally office hours would be from 9 till 5. In the government times are usually much more flexible with most administration staff having the opportunity to work any times from 8 till 6. Within the government it is usually possible to apply to go part time after you have won a position within the organization as opposed to private enterprise where they are generally much less flexible. Room for advancement within an Administrative position usually depends on the size of the company, the larger the company the more room for promotion. For this reason the government is a good place to get started as there are so many more vacant positions to apply for.
