Media placement jobs are jobs that deal directly with advertisements and promotional materials. Media placement jobs require workers to sell or buy ad spaces that will help promote a company's service or product. Media placement jobs are common in advertising agencies, media-buying agencies, magazines, newspapers, and television and radio broadcasting networks. Media placement jobs are unlike regular clerical jobs since media placement jobs entail creative and marketing skills most of the time.
Media placement jobs often require workers to have graduated with bachelor's degrees in advertising, communication, marketing, business administration or liberal arts. Applicants will also be hired for media placement jobs if they have had some previous training on similar tasks while they were still studying. On the other hand, higher level media placement jobs sometimes require workers to have had at least five years of relevant work experience or master's degrees. Media placement workers may also make use of their on-the-job experience to move up the career ladder.
Media placement jobs often need workers to deal with clients who are usually big companies. Media placement workers need to be attentive to clients' demands so that they can provide what exactly are being asked for. Also, media placement workers have to deal with much pressure in deadlines and in control of product quality to avoid the risk of losing clients or accounts.
Media placement workers also need to have excellent and effective communication skills since it is part of their job to help sell their clients' products. In selling clients' products, media placement workers need to keep in mind who the target audience is. Media placement workers also have to remember to convey their messages in a straightforward and appealing manner.
The job of the media planner is to purchase space for advertising in various spots such as radio, television, newspapers and magazines. Media planners may also buy advertising spaces from billboard owners or from ad spot owners in public facilities. Media planners may be called time buyers if they are buying air time from radio and television channels or they may be called space buyers if they are buying advertisement pages or locations.
Media planners ought to know much about how much the different types of media may cost. It is also the duty of media planners to research on what ad spaces are most effective for a particular type of product. Often, media planners need research how many people may be reached by an advertisement to see how much an ad space may cost. Usually, if many people may see or hear an advertisement or commercial, the more expensive an ad space will be.
Media planners may work in advertising agencies or they may work for media-buying
agencies. When media planners are employed with the latter, it is the media planner's job to buy advertising spaces before hand and to sell such ad spaces to advertising agencies.
The media director is the position ranking higher than the media planner. The media planner reports to the media director who oversees all service operations in the marketing department. Media directors earn the higher end of five-digit salaries if they are good in their work. However, they may earn six-digit salaries if they are excellent workers and have around six to ten years of experience.
