Australian's leaving Sydney for better job opportunities

2 January 2008

Queensland Premier Anna Bligh has confirmed that the Sunshine state had targeted potential employees living in Sydney. More than 20,000 Sydneysider's are leaving the New South Wales capital each year heading north to Queensland or south to Victoria for better job opportunities.

Victorian Premier John Brumby said, "We've focused on improving housing affordability and the quality of life, including investing in vital services such as health and education," to recruit employees from other states.

"We have worked very hard to make Victoria the most liveable state in Australia,"

"Our strong economy means we created more jobs than any other state this year," He added.

One of the things that must be worrying for Sydney is that once young professionals leave Sydney and begin a life, probably a successful business life in another city, it's very difficult to have these people return to their home state which leaves a shortfall of professionals which is not easily replenished.
