Economy blamed for job losses

13 February 2008

Up to 150 new jobs at a Tasmanian Centrelink call centre will not be created with the strong Australian economy being blamed.

The call centre jobs were to go to Launceston Telstra workers who lose their jobs at the end of the month.

The former Howard government had promised that Centrelink would employ an extra 150 staff in Launceston but with Australia's booming economy, the call centre staff simply aren't required.
