Transportation to remote jobs can be a major stress on workers and their families, so many people now consider proximity to their home as a deciding factor in choosing new jobs. There are many advantages to working closer to home, especially if you have a family, as you will save on both time and money that would otherwise be wasted on transport.
Some people prefer jobs close to where they live due to the exercise it can potentially provide. If your workplace is only a kilometre or two from home, driving is really only necessary on rainy mornings or extremely hot summer days. For people who go to the gym merely to keep their weight in control, this can be enough exercise as long as a healthy diet is maintained. Saving on transport, time, gym fees and keeping healthy to boot - jobs within walking distance are very advantageous for those that can find them.
