Resume writing is hard - especially when you're modifying your resume for all the jobs you're applying for. It may be tedious, and you know that your resume may only be looked at for a few minutes (if that), but you do have to individualise each resume and cover letter for each of the jobs you apply for.
By making the effort to customise your resume and cover letter, they will look less generic and will make the skills and experience that the company is after stand out.
Study the job description carefully and identify the skills and experience they're after. Make sure these skills and experiences are made prominent in your resume and cover letter. You want the employers to know that you have what they want. If your resume and cover letter shows them what they want to see, chances are you'll be called up for an interview.
