Tips for mature age workers seeking jobs

27 June 2008

People over 55 are still looking for jobs because they aren't interested in retiring just yet. And if the prospect of sitting at home, participating in hobby groups, or even travelling doesn't interest you just yet - why not work? With the expected retirement age set at 60, more and more mature age workers are looking for jobs.

If you are a mature age worker looking for jobs there are a few tips to remember:

  • There is no need to include your date of birth on your resume.
  • Detail only the last 15 - 10 years of employment jobs.
  • Research your potential jobs and the skills expected of you.
  • Make an effort to follow up the jobs you applied for - even if you don't get the job, you may get feedback which will help you with applications for other jobs.
  • If you feel uncertain about creating your resume, ask a professional to help you develop one.
  • Written references aren't used much these days - confirm the contact details of your referees
