Retaining workers in unpopular jobs

3 June 2008

Not all jobs are highly sought after, and in times of low unemployment with many more attractive positions available it can be difficult to convince new workers to stay in jobs that are less than optimal. If you are an employer who has found that turnover rates for a particular position in your business are unreasonably high, perhaps you should consider what could be the cause behind this. If workers in that position regularly need to work longer hours, perhaps it is an area that requires more than one person to handle. It may cost more to hire extra people to do unpopular jobs, but the costs of constantly training new staff are also very high.
