Taxi Driver Jobs

People with taxi driver jobs are involved with the driving of licensed taxis that transport passengers to their destinations. Most people with taxi driver jobs secure memberships in either regional or citywide radio communication networks that provide branding and booking services to both operators and drivers.

Tasks and responsibilities

The main responsibility of the people with taxi driver jobs is to safely transport their passengers to their respective destinations. People with taxi driver jobs obtain passengers in two different ways: by responding to taxi hails or by parking in taxi stands. Some people with taxi driver jobs who drive taxis with onboard computers may also obtain passengers by taking tips from despatchers.

People with these types of transportation operator jobs also help their passengers load or unload their luggage to and from the taxi. The regular cleaning and general maintenance of taxis are also included in the people with taxi driver jobs' list of tasks and responsibilities. People with taxi driver jobs may choose to work full-time or part-time, with an option to work on a day shift or a night shift.

Requirements and qualifications

The entry requirement for taxi driver jobs is a driver's licence. In Australia, it is mandatory for all applicants of taxi driver jobs to complete the taxi driver courses organised by the Taxi Unit of the Department of Transport. They need to pass these courses before they can qualify for taxi driver jobs. Although there are no specific academic requirements for taxi driver jobs, most employers prefer applicants with an AQF Certificate II or higher. Relevant experience in other transportation operator jobs is also needed. Other requirements include a clean criminal record, excellent communication skills decent mathematical aptitude, and good sense of direction.
