About Travel Industry Jobs

Tourism is a huge income-generating sector for Australia. Tourists provide a cash influx amounting to millions of dollars, which is why tourism methods have become substantially aggressive as of late, in order to attract more tourists to visit the country. There are various travel jobs available, and they usually require that you relate well to people of diverse cultural background. Patience and eloquence is also a must. • Travel Consultants- responsible for providing tourists and travelers with the information on their destination of choice. Travel consultants may also provide booking services. There are business companies known to employ travel consultants for international travel. Ongoing job training is vital to a travel consultant because of the diversity and constant updating of travel information. The salary is usually on commission basis. Working hours typically include weekends and 10-hour working days.
• Tour Guides- escorts visitors, tourists and travelers, showing them around while presenting special information about the place being toured. As a result, a tour guide must be widely knowledgeable and well informed, and readily available on occasions of short notice. The work of a tour guide can be physically demanding. They need to be alert and attentive to the visitor's needs at all times and ready to answer questions and solve problems that might pop up during the duration of the tour. Generally, tour guides are categorised as more of a hospitality job than a travel job.
• Travel Agents- compared to travel consultants, travel agents may provide accommodation and reservations for tourists and travelers. A travel agent can
  offer advise on which tours to take, stress-free travel routes and excellent hotels and accommodations, as well as evaluating tourism openings for various local attractions across the country. Part of the duties of a travel agent is to promote tourism using brochures or books to present to potential tourists.
• Tourism Manager- a tourism manager performs the following functions: manage tourist information centers, work as administrators for local tourism, keep records on the tourism budget and marketing, conduct seminars and presentations for tourism awareness to the community, media and other interest groups while encouraging their involvement.

Although travel jobs are well advertised, a lot of job vacancies are usually passed by word of mouth. Many travel jobs can be casual by nature. For example, without tour groups, a tour guide would have a lot of vacant time on his hands. Alternatively, full time jobs in the travel industry do not usually follow a strict 9 to 5 working period, and may include working nights and weekends. High education attainment is not a major factor for applicants of travel jobs.
