Guide Jobs
People with guide jobs are involved in escorting tourists and travelers on their journey to different areas of interest. The main objective of the people with guide jobs is to keep tourists and travelers informed and entertained during their tour. Guide jobs are also referred to as travel guide jobs or tour guide jobs.
Tasks and responsibilities
The tasks and responsibilities of the people with guide jobs start even before the guided tour begins. People with guide jobs are responsible for organising pre-arranged activities such as museum visits, shopping schedules, and lunch hours. They are also responsible for coordinating with drivers for the tourists' transportation options.
On the day of the guided tour, people with guide jobs start their work by introducing themselves to the tourists. They inform the tourists of what they can expect from the guided tour by providing an overview of activities and destinations. It is the duty of the people with guide jobs to give extra information about the culture, history, and other features of the places to be visited during the tour.
Requirements and qualifications
An AQF Certificate II or any higher qualification is the entry requirement for guide jobs but most employers prefer applicants with a degree in tourism, international studies, or history. Knowledge of world cultures, geography, or world history is also required in guide jobs. Relevant working experience in other travel jobs is also needed to qualify for guide jobs.
Extensive travel experience is an advantage and background in public speaking is a plus. Applicants who can speak several foreign languages have higher chances of employment in guide jobs. Other personal requirements in guide jobs include excellent communication skills, outstanding organisational skills, strong analytical skills, and exceptional interpersonal skills.
Salary and other benefits
Successful applicants of guide jobs can expect competitive salary rates from their employers. The salary range of the people with these types of travel jobs is from AU$48,000 to AU$55,000, depending on their skills and competency in guide jobs. People with guide jobs may also specialise to be bilingual guides, indigenous guides, or ecotour guides.
