Typesetter jobs really has evolved and may now include a new job description. Typesetter jobs were, in the past, about the skillful setting of type on paper or another medium. This was done by hand, as the manual version of the printing process in those times. Today, people in typesetter jobs do not have to do everything manually; they only have to design the type using a computer software. This is why graphic designers can also apply for typesetter jobs.
Duties involved in typesetter jobs
The main duty assigned to people in typesetter jobs is setting the text on medium. In this modern age, this means either choosing the appropriate type or designing a new font for the material to be published. Typography jobs sure have come a long way, but the focus is still on creating a type design and being able to print the text using the existing technology. Typesetter jobs now involve a more advanced process, in turn making publishing faster or more efficient.
Skills required in typesetter jobs
All typography jobs require applicants to be creative. Old-fashioned typesetter jobs need people to have manual dexterity, as the setting of type is done by hand. But still, dexterity is an important skill even in modern typesetter jobs. If the typesetter or graphic artist is designing a new font, he or she needs to carefully maneuver the mouse or pen to create the desired design. Today, typesetters must also be familiar with various computer software, including but not limited to the Adobe Creative Suite.
Educational requirements for typesetter jobs
High school graduates may apply for typesetter jobs. Those with at least an art-related vocational education are highly preferred.
