About Warehouse Management Jobs

Warehouse and storage facilities are required for stocking up general merchandise and refrigerated goods for public consumption. These facilities are considered a necessity in the market because they are the middle ground between manufacturers and consumers. They may be independent or part of a larger supply chain. Warehouse management jobs available in these facilities ensure the smooth operation of warehousing and logistics, from major concerns (inventory, delivery scheduling) to minor ones (tools, office supplies). The types of work in warehouse management can range from administrative, to physical, to computer-based.

Warehouse management jobs include

• Stock Movers and Laborers- in charge of loading, unloading, and transferring of goods. Minimum or no skill is required for applicants to get the job. physical. Common equipments used by these workers to move freight are pallet jacks, pry bars, conveyor belts, and forklifts. The labor is highly physical and the salary can be very low.
• Clerks and Dispatchers- the support workers in charge of the recordkeeping in the warehouse. Jobs include coordinating the transportation and delivery of goods, setting schedules and routes, monitoring product arrival and departure times, and verification of cargo and inventory records. Salary range is low to moderate.
• Repair Technicians- in charge of equipment installation, repair and maintenance. generally, applicants in this job position are required to have vocational training and technical expertise. Repair technicians also conduct regular safety checks on the warehouse equipments. Labor can be highly physical (mechanics) to moderately physical (computer technicians). Salary may vary according to
  technical skills.
• Salespersons- provide warehousing and trucking services to cargo shippers. Their job includes monthly reports, statistics and a few administrative tasks. Sales persons are obliged to travel in order to meet up with prospect clients, discuss client requisites, and offer suitable services. Good communication skills are required.
• Administrative Staff- in charge of managing the other workers mentioned above. Job applicants must have undergone formal education and training. Administrative duties include hiring and supervising the subordinate employees, office work and logistics, and sometimes require handling of safety and training seminars for the entire labor force.

Although these warehouse management jobs may have different labels in different locations, the duties they perform are essentially the same.

New Technology in Warehouse Management Jobs

Modernisation has become intrinsic in warehouse management. New technology includes the implementation of Automated Data Collection (ADC) or Barcoding, Radio Frequency Identification Devices (RFID), and Warehouse Management Systems (WMS). These technical advances have greatly improved the categorising and locating of stocks in the warehouse inventory. Many warehouses across the country now heavily rely on these new technologies to speed up the coordination process and delivery of goods.
